DIY Elderberry Syrup with Rose Hips


Ingredients

  • 2 cups organic elderberries

  • 1/2 cup organic rosehips

  • 4 cups cold purified water

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 1 Tbsp dried ginger (or substitute 2 Tbsp grated fresh ginger)

  • 1 cup raw honey (ideally a local honey is best)

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients except the honey into a large pot and bring to a boil

  2. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 45 - 60 minutes (stirring occasionally)

  3. Allow liquid to cool and then drain through a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth ( compost the remaining herbs)

  4. Add raw honey and stir till combined

  5. Pour into a glass container , label with the date and store in the fridge for up to 2 months. This can also be frozen in ice cube trays for longer storage and taken out as needed.

Recommended Dosage:

  • The standard dose is ½ tsp to 1 tsp for kids

  • ½ Tbsp to 1 Tbsp for adults.

It can be taken daily during flu season, as a preventative. You can also take it for a week,

then take a few days off, and repeat that process. If the flu does strike, take the

normal dose every 2-3 hours instead of once a day until symptoms disappear.
